Parents as Career Educators

Young people making decisions about their future are strongly influenced by their parents or caregivers. We welcome the opportunity to work alongside whānau to support our students to transition effectively from school into tertiary education or the world of employment. Parents are encouraged to access the resources posted through to help students develop their career profile and access information about careers events, tertiary institutions, job searches, financial goals and information about what is required to be ready for work or future study.

International Design Your Career Summit notes for students and parents – A summary of notes from a Careers summit involving career educators from the UK, Australia and NZ in 2020. The first page is for students while the second give parents some guidelines on how they can assist their children in their careers decisions.

Thinking about university?  This is a very useful website describing all facets of preparing for university study. There are lists of degrees and where you can study, career pathways, scholarship information etc. Please let the careers advisor know if you would like a booklet version.
